The Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), one of the title sponsors of the 58th staging of the Denbigh Agricultural & Industrial Show, will launch the 'Eat What You Grow, Grow what you Eat' Culinary Competition at the Denbigh Showground in Clarendon from July 31 to August 2.

Leon Mitchell, Marketing, Promotions and Sales Executive, JNBS, said that the competition is in keeping with the theme of this year’s show and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries 'Eat What You Grow, Grow what You Eat,' campaign.

“We want to intensify this campaign aimed at boosting the production and consumption of local food products. This support to farmers is one way to boost the economy,” Mr. Mitchell pointed out.  “We believe that this culinary competition will help to generate more interest for local food especially during this recessionary period, and hope that it will inspire persons, to be creative in providing nutritious meals for their families.”

Judy Benjamin, Sales Manager, JNBS, said that the competition is open to persons of all ages who have or open a JNBS regular savings account with a minimum of J$1,000.

“We will be featuring Irish or Sweet Potato as the main products, individually or combined, to be used to create a unique end product.  The recipe, which must be original, should include local ingredients, in metric measurements, and the item produced should be able to serve a family of four,” Mrs. Benjamin explained.

“Recipes, along with the entry form, are to be submitted to the JNBS Marketing Department, 75 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5, before September 22, 2010.  And, the ten contestants with the best recipes will be invited to do a ‘cook off’ at the Health Home and Garden Expo scheduled to take place at the National Arena in October.”

The grand prize is a JN Gift Certificate valued at J$10,000 and a food processor; second prize, a JN Gift Certificate valued at J$7,500 and a stainless steel pot set; and third prize will be a JN Gift Certificate valued at J$5,000 and a stainless steel cutlery set.

JNBS and its subsidiaries, will showcase the products and services available through the JN Group, in the JN House at Denbigh and the JNBS Foundation will highlight the charitable work of the JN Group. This is the second year that JNBS is a title sponsor of the Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show.
