ISO Certification

Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) has attained the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certification, becoming the first financial institution in Jamaica to be ISO 9001:2008 certified.

The largest and one of the oldest, building societies in Jamaica and the Caribbean, JNBS received its certification following an assessment by the Lloyd’s Register Group. Expert Assessors of quality systems at Lloyd’s Register audited the JNBS Chief Office and its Half-Way-Tee Branch, July23-25, and certified that they met the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Standard.

Earl Jarrett, General Manager of the JNBS, said that with this certification, the Society is now ranked among the best in the sector, internationally. “This is an achievement that we are very proud of and certification means that service to our Members will be based on international quality standards, against which Jamaica National will be held accountable,” he said.

He pointed out that the certification will push JNBS along a path of greater operational efficiency and improved service. “The certification will redound to the benefit of our members and stakeholders.”

The building society initiated its path to ISO 9001:2008 Certification in 2010 by systematically assessing its systems to identify areas for improvement, and to train employees to assist with the transformation.

Michele Pollard Gonzalez, the ISO 9001:2008 Management Representative and Executive, with responsibility for the Enterprise Contact Centre (ECC) at JNBS, said the ECC team embarked on a mission to sensitise JNBS’ employees through training, with more than 400 employees being exposed to the requirements of the Standard.

“This certification was a team effort. We regard this as another milestone in providing exceptional customer service to our Members” Mrs. Pollard Gonzalez declared, pointing out that Customer Service is at the centre of what we do. “And, we will pursue any measure that will allow the Society to operate efficiently and profitably to the greater benefits of its members.”

The Society now joins the ranks of leading international businesses, such as Barclays Bank, which attained ISO 27001 certification, the standard for management systems for information security, and HSBC (Indian operations), that is ISO 9001:2008 certified. Another inspection of JNBS will take place in February 2013; and, will include the certification of all branches in the JNBS network.
