The Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) Florida Representative Office participated in activities to commemorate Jamaica Diaspora Day on Saturday, June 16.

At a Summit and Lunch Jam organized by the Jamaican Diaspora Council, to inform members of the community about various aspects of the Jamaican economy and society, Janice McIntosh, JNBS Chief Representative Officer, gave a presentation on investment opportunities available locally.

“It was an opportunity to make members of the Jamaican Diaspora community in Florida aware of some of the issues currently impacting the Jamaican economy, in the context of global financial challenges,” Mrs. McIntosh said.

The wide ranging presentation provided an overview of the previous 12 months and some of the major challenges, as well as positive indicators for the Jamaican economy.

“We highlighted the lowering of inflation, the relatively stable foreign exchange rate, reduction in crime and interest rate and growth in the Junior stock listings, among other positive factors that could possibly influence an investor’s decision,” she stated.

Mrs. McIntosh also emphasized the wide variety of options that the JN Group provides to members of the Diaspora, who are interested in investing locally, including fixed income and tax free investment, as well as insurance and mortgage solutions.

“Real estate is a great investment that can provide a hedge against inflation with value appreciation and retirement income and is a good source of cash flow through rental income,” Mrs. McIntosh added, pointing out further that “real estate is now a more attractive area for investment, with the reduction in mortgage rates and transfer tax and stamp duty.”

The 9th annual observance of Jamaica Diaspora Day was observed by members of the Diaspora community across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
